La Patria Update

Greetings, Friends of La Patria!

We pray you are all safe and healthy. It was a disappointment to us this past year that we were unable to gather for the annual Sponsorship Soup to share updates, to bless you for your love and care for the students of La Patria, and to celebrate all that the school is doing. We look forward to seeing you next fall.

We have been eager to write to you but needed to sort out a number of pandemic-related details first. Thank you for your patience! As you might imagine, our beloved Escuela Evangélica La Patria (EELP) community in Medina is suffering from the impact of COVID-19 and, as you may be aware, is also reeling from the devastating hurricanes Eta and Iota.

All of this has thrown education norms out the window, and we on the Cornerstone Honduras Partnership Team have been so impressed with the way the La Patria teachers and school families have rallied, being so very committed to the education of Medina’s children.

Thank you for your continued support of this incredible community. They continue to be deeply grateful for your partnership.

The EELP school board has prayerfully considered the best way to move forward to effectively serve their families and has settled on a plan to begin the 2021 school year in late February (as usual) in a 100% virtual format.

We are so glad that the students will be able to continue learning about God's love for them as they participate in a life-altering education directed by the talented and hard-working teachers of La Patria.

Friends, as you know, this won’t happen without your support. Families in San Pedro Sula have lost their jobs to the pandemic, homes to the hurricanes, and loved ones to both. Please consider continuing or expanding the financial support of your sponsored student.

We know that this is a challenging time for you too, and if you can’t give at the level you did last year, please know that every donation is powerful and every prayer is cherished.

We also want to make you aware of an additional need this year: Technology. Several La Patria families did not have appropriate devices for their children to connect to the internet in order to attend virtual classes. During the first week of January, we collected and were able to bring down items that met those needs. Thank you!

While we were there, we were made aware of similar technology needs in the neighboring communities and will be sending down the following new or used items in June to be distributed by our church partner:
- Laptops with working chargers that have internet capabilities
- Smart phones with working chargers and intact screens
- Tablets with working chargers and intact screens

La Patria needs to communicate promptly with their families to let them know whether they will be receiving a sponsorship this year. Please let us know whether or not you will continue with your financial support by February 28th.

To ensure that teachers are paid on time and that the school is able to run at an optimum level, your financial contribution is welcome as early as you are able to send it. We would like to have the last of the funds ready to send down no later than June 1st.

You may send a check for the 2021 school year to the church office.

Or you may donate online by going to https://cornerstonecrystal.org/give and selecting the “La Patria” fund from the dropdown menu.

In order to keep our records up to date, we ask you to answer the questions below. You will also receive a hard copy of this letter in the coming days if you prefer to respond through the mail. (*Depending on needs, your particular student may receive more or less than the precise amount that you give; 100% of the money collected goes toward the tuition of EELP students.

We respectfully ask that in correspondence with your sponsored student you refrain from discussing financial matters. Please bring any question or concerns to the Cornerstone Honduras Partnership Team, and we will be happy to facilitate conversation with the La Patria administration, which is the appropriate channel for such discussions.)

Thank you so much for supporting the students and families of La Patria!

Humbly and gratefully,

The Honduras Partnership Team

Hi again, Barb! I'm hearing that the longer link is problematic. Here's a shorter one that should work. Thanks so much for your support!
